Do you want to get through the transition/menopause more pleasantly? We can help.

Help with menopause - menopause?

The menopause is not an illness: it is a natural process involving a change in your hormones. At a certain age, ovulation will become less frequent and the hormones oestrogen and progesterone will gradually decrease.

Symptoms of menopause

80% of women experience menopause. Complaints that may accompany it include:

  • Sleeping badly
  • Hot flashes
  • Sore/stiff muscles
  • Joint complaints
  • Increase in weight
  • Headache
  • Mood swings
  • Heart palpitations

Changes in the body during menopause

Hormonal changes cause your metabolism, or metabolic rate, to slow down. This causes your body to have increasing difficulty burning and processing calories. Also, your muscle mass gradually decreases. Muscles you need to keep a strong body (also for your bones) and are useful for faster burning.

Definition of menopause

Menopause, or transition, is defined as when a woman has not had a period for 12 consecutive months and has no other causes for this absence of menstruation, such as pregnancy or illness. It is a natural stage in a woman's life where the body stops ovulating and the production of hormones changes. This can cause a lot of different symptoms such as hot flashes, weight gain, mood swings and insomnia. Menopause usually begins around the age of 45 to 55.

Hormonal changes and possible treatments

Your hormones are changing considerably, especially the production of estrogen and progesterone. There are several medical and non-medical options to reduce symptoms of menopause, including:

  • Hormone therapy
  • Natural supplements
  • Lifestyle changes (especially sugar and stress reduction)
  • Medication

Sports and strength training during and after menopause

Exercise, especially strength training, can have a positive effect on women's hormones during and after menopause. For example, it can help with:

  • Reducing the risk of osteoporosis by increasing bone density
  • Reduction of symptoms of menopause
  • Improving overall health and well-being
  • Reduce risk of heart disease and other chronic conditions more common after menopause

Strength training can also improve the body's testosterone and insulin sensitivity, which can lead to weight loss and reduce the risk of metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. In addition, strength training can also help reduce hot flashes and improve sleep quality.
